WEBVTT
Hey, what's up, everybody?
It is Gene Fetty back at you
with another episode of our
All Access podcast from the
Automotive Appearance Institute.
Back again,
it's gonna we're gonna have to
change this like the Gene and John show.
Yep.
But back with Mr. John again.
Hello.
And we're gonna talk about his training.
But before we do that,
I kind of feel like an idiot.
because we were just sitting
here watching some other videos,
studying up on some stuff.
And I went to log in and I said,
it's Vidich, right?
And he goes, nope,
you've been saying my name
wrong the whole time.
Now,
I make sure I stay Jean,
because I think people shouldn't stay Zan,
even though you give
everybody that pass here.
But it's not Vidic.
It's Vidic.
Vidic.
Yes.
Perfect.
Don't hold me to that.
I'm going to struggle with it.
But Mr...
sean uh anyways sean thanks
for coming back again yeah
I think we were just
talking I think this is the
fourth time yep uh that
you've been on the show uh
setting records setting
records again yeah right
we're gonna stop you short
of your ten um it's just
worked out well the the one
you're a great guy and
enjoy talking and spending
time with you thank you uh
but we got interesting
stuff to talk about yep so
Admittedly,
I tried to get Jean to make
content for AAI and bring
it into our catalog and
just couldn't get it
figured out and he wanted
to do his own thing.
And that for sure is good, I think.
We'll see.
We'll see.
to beat him up I'm just
kidding uh anyways he
recently what maybe like
not even two weeks ago yeah
yeah maybe two three weeks
ago yeah uh about two weeks
ago uh finally and I know
that you've been working on
this for a long time yeah
and putting all the video
together uh you have
brought out and introduced
your own online uh pdr
training for beginners
Right?
It's not a, it's not a glue pull class.
It's not an advanced deep dive class.
It is.
You've had a lot of people understandably.
So come to you and be like, Hey,
teach me how to do PDR.
Um,
so I wanted to bring Sean on and talk a
little bit about that and,
and more to you guys.
Uh,
we even had somebody comment on last
week's show about like how
to start a PDR business.
Uh, well,
I guess the first step is to
learn how to do PDR without a doubt.
Uh,
so let's start with the most basic part
of this, John,
why are you bringing
beginner PDR training?
virtual beginner PDR
training to the world.
What's the driving force there for you?
The driving force is I've
been offering in-person PDR
trainings at home in Slovenia, Europe,
for a while now,
but only when I have time to do so.
And much like myself,
you're a pretty busy guy.
Yes.
So I'm a hail chaser.
And even if I don't chase hail,
I still fix hail back at
home because we are lucky
enough to get hit every year.
So if I can call it slow months,
that would be February and March.
Not every year.
Right, just depends on the year.
Depends on the year.
I can squeeze in a week or two.
But when a person reach out
to me in September and, hey,
I want to learn PBR, you know, yeah,
wait till March, you know.
Right.
Or...
Maybe there's something I
can give them right there
and then that they can go online.
Plus,
I noticed I had a guy training with
me in person.
He came in with previous
online PDR training with someone else.
it was way easier to teach
him and he got way more out of the class.
So if someone starts with
online for just the basic
stuff and then goes to in-person,
I think it's way faster and
easier for everyone.
And I think that's a point
that a lot of people miss.
And we're a training company.
We teach and we do a lot of online.
With increases in technology
for streaming,
The quality of video we can get online now,
unreal.
The quality of picture that you can get,
even low-tech, even from an iPhone,
is unreal.
Or even from a GoPro,
let alone the professional
cameras in the studio.
It's really crazy what you
can show somebody virtually.
Yes.
Now, I think we would both agree.
that hands-on in person over
the shoulder is the best.
It is definitely the best,
but it's also the most expensive.
And not just the most expensive,
but it's the most trying.
The student has to give up time at home.
They're generally traveling to somewhere.
So no chance of making an
income while you're gone,
away from family, away from friends.
Meals on the road, right?
You've got to eat.
I don't know any trainings
that come with all food.
You've got to do something.
And you're not in your home environment.
You're not comfortable and relaxed.
And I really think like even
and I'm glad there's
another solution out there now.
No offense, Jim, with real world.
But when people come to me
because we don't at AAI,
we don't do beginner training.
We do have an intro to PDR
through GPR class.
but beginner training is not our focus.
Yep.
I recommend, Hey, go check out,
or I have in the past,
go check out real world PDR
because I know Jim has a great,
great jump off beginner.
And then go check out my Toledo trainer,
huge catalog of classes
there and things to get you started.
And then now I can point
them to best PDR training.com.
Right.
Go see,
go see John and check out his style
because I,
I, I a hundred percent agree with you that,
that,
and I think this is Jim's approach
also when you can get those
fundamentals set up ahead of time,
even before an in-person training.
it gives you a leap ahead in
the learning process
because like really the
basic of the basics are pretty simple.
Yeah, but they're simple,
but you need some time to
train your eyes and realize
where your tip is.
And I noticed if some
trainers coming to me in
person and that's the same
thing that Jim probably noticed.
That's why he had, I believe,
don't quote me, but I think Jim had
must do online before going
to him right I believe you
are correct also yes and if
they're paying for a week
of in-person training and
all you're doing that week
is trying to teach him how
to find the tip of the tool
It's kind of their money wasted in a way.
They could easily learn this
basic at home.
Because here is just metal
time and some guidance.
Then the guidance comes into play.
And really, so we're teaching my son Mac,
right?
He's six months into his journey.
Doing great, by the way.
But in the beginning, he's like, Dad,
I don't even see what
you're talking about.
And this was in person.
Yes, yes.
And I'm like, but how do you not see that?
And he's like,
I don't know what you're talking about.
And we brought the cameras
out and set it up and put
it on the TV to make this
little micro flaw.
You know,
an inch on the TV is a lot bigger than,
you know,
a tenth of a millimeter in person.
Even in person, we, air quote,
wasted a lot of time just
teaching him how to see.
Yeah.
I believe obviously I'm a
firm believer in online
training that online
training that that that
jumpstart helps them leap
ahead it helps them work
through the learning curve
yeah I agree yeah um so
what uh you know I guess if
you've got a student or a
potential student
thinking about it they've
not done pdr but you know
they've got an interest yes
and they're going after it
what what would be your
biggest piece of advice for them
uh to to get started and
I've got my own piece of
advice too that I'll share
after yours you mean to how
to start training yes yeah
like like if somebody came
up to you somebody goes on
your youtube channel yes
right and go follow jean on
youtube uh at vidits vidits
yeah but put the ad symbol
in there first because
that's what youtube said
yep uh but anyways if
somebody reached out to you
or commented on one of your
videos and they were like hey jean
I want to get started in pdr
what advice would you give
them so I would first
direct them to my training
website
bestleadertraining.com and tell
them to at least get the
first the beginner stage so
how this is how I made it
is in three stages it's
beginner intermediate and advanced
and they're all a part of learning PDR.
So even though it says beginner,
intermediate, advanced,
it's not intermediate PDR
skills and advanced.
pdr skills that we would
think of advanced being
better in technicians this
is that would be sort of
the three phases of
learning pdr the three
phases of becoming
proficient at pdr yep okay
so at least get the
beginner one where it
teaches you all the basic
stuff uh and it's also the
cheapest entry level sure
of course it teaches you
what tools you need just
for training yeah just for
starting training not what
you will need in your career later on
and the scrap panel how to
put the panel on the stand
and how to take these tools
how to set up your light
and how to basically start
and at the end of that
course I also explain
different types of training
for continuing in person
online or self-taught
because there is also
self-taught training and
the benefits of each so the
individual has more um
better view of what's out
there and how he wants to proceed.
Okay.
That makes a lot of sense.
My advice, if you're trying to get started,
would be before you even
pick a platform to go on,
find an instructor that you connect with.
I think that's so important to find.
Right.
We were just watching some
testimonials from our level up class.
This is really cool.
Shout out to the level up attendees.
I mean,
you guys really warmed our hearts
with those testimonials and
they'll be coming out before the next
Level up.
Yeah.
Likely February of twenty six.
That's right.
Yeah.
Likely February of twenty six.
So keep an eye out.
It's coming.
But find a trainer you
connect with even at level up.
Right.
If it's just me and John and
we don't have Dave helping
or or certainly if we have Dave helping.
and make helping then Mac
with our right to to look
at essentially the same
dent or at least the same
style of damage you and I
often have two different
approaches to the same dent
right with the same end
result yes the same
finished product so find
and find an instructor
that connects with you,
that you like how they
explain it and it all makes sense to you.
A great place to see that is on YouTube.
Go watch your videos.
You've got over a million views.
Slightly ahead of me.
That's all right.
I'm just kidding.
You're going to beat me there.
We'll get there.
But go check out John's content.
If you're thinking about AI,
go check out our content.
If you're thinking about real world,
go check out real world.
If you want to look at Mike's,
go look at Dentime.
Find somebody you connect with.
Ultimately,
I would say go buy it all.
Right.
When you really, really,
when you talk about the
value of online training
compared to travel and being in person,
man, I would,
if I was really going all in,
I'd say buy it all.
Yeah.
Right.
But it's not a commercial for everybody.
They really,
this isn't a commercial for you.
We're here to talk about your training.
Yeah, no, but,
but my recommendation would
be find a trainer that you connect with.
And really go,
go consume as much training as possible.
Even if you've gone through
like a real world or an ed trainer,
or even an AI course,
and you're looking to
continue to move on.
Right?
Check out Jean's courses.
Like you said,
everyone has a different way
of explaining things.
I like to keep it simple and to the point.
And that's it.
And I've been stopped at MTE a few times.
And that's also one of the
reasons why I went and did this training.
I was thinking about it,
but that gave me a push to go do it.
Quite a few people stopped
me because they've seen my
YouTube videos.
I have some educational videos on YouTube.
And they said...
I just love how you explain.
It's so simple.
That's it.
Thanks.
That's the name of the game.
And really,
that was feedback that we got
from the level up.
Yes.
Was both of us are able to
explain exactly what we're doing,
what you're doing, how to do it,
why to do it,
and where you're going wrong.
I think that's just huge.
Yeah.
Really,
really huge when it comes to training.
Yep.
So that's a great, great driver.
uh let's sneak over let's
see if I can do this
without screwing it up so
if you're listening to the
audio version head on over
to our youtube channel at
auto appearance institute
and uh check out the video
version of this we're gonna
go take a peek at jean's
website so I think we want
to do like this one and
share screen there we go
and share this and we're
going to share this
There we go.
So, uh, the website,
if you want to check out
John's training is best PDR training.com,
right?
Yep.
That's the website.
Um,
So talks about this man right here.
Ten time dent competition winner.
Yep.
Right.
Happened this year.
That is amazing.
Yeah.
That's a,
that's such a great photo and the smile.
I know how hard you work at
these competitions, man.
Good for you.
I was so nervous when you
were talking about the
level of competition when
they hadn't announced your name yet.
Yep.
I think I mentioned that on
another podcast.
Yeah.
I was feeling the anxiety for you.
Um,
so it was the big stone off
my chest I bet uh so on
here we've got training for
every skill level uh real
real repairs real
innovations that's like a
tongue twister yeah yeah um
the website is still in
progress of course of
course yep um and then the
courses that are available
so the beginner
intermediate and advanced
yep so let's take a look uh
let's sort of take a look
at I didn't even realize I
clicked on that each one of
these uh and let's go to
the beginner but now we're
in we're in america america
yep and you got this weird
symbol yeah this is yeah
this is in euros okay yeah
which so one ninety nine
it's like two hundred um
euros that would be like a
little less than two
hundred and thirty dollars
yeah yeah um but if you're
going to check out uh with
the visa mastercard or
whatever it's going to be
automatically converted
yeah so don't so don't
worry about yes and not
showing us dollars or canadian dollars or
whatever uh I might have to
change it to the dollars
because it's the most
universal currency on
online sales um so here's a
little bit of you know the
I guess these are your
different sections yes
these are the videos inside
of there um how to see the
demo I have to imagine that that's like
Starting to read your light?
Exactly.
Okay.
So it teaches you what are you looking at,
how to place the light and
how to see the reflection, basically,
where you position the dent
in your eyesight.
And you know what's funny is
looking at this funny, like funny, weird.
We were just watching some
of the testimonials from Level Up, right?
And I think that was two
years to twenty three years
in the business.
There were, I believe,
three of the students in that class.
That said something.
That said something about, man,
I learned how to read the light.
I learned how to see correctly.
I learned how to knock it down.
Knock it down.
Right?
Yes.
So the fundamentals truly
are the fundamentals.
Yes.
Whether you are a beginner
that's not ever trained before.
Yep.
Or you are here for advanced training.
Right?
I guess it's like riding a
bike or hitting a baseball
or hitting a golf ball.
fundamentals are just so
important it's just in
everything you do yeah
every sport for example I
love how um castillo said
one time uh um that we are
how does he phrase it we
are professional not
athletes but working
athletes or something like
this okay and and I hundred
percent agree with this
like we need to keep in
stay in shape yes because
your body is going through a lot of um
Pressure.
Yeah.
Yeah.
My shoulders feel that.
Absolutely.
So you need to kind of stay
in shape and yeah,
you need to do the repetition.
If you go on a vacation for a month,
when you're going to come back,
you're going to be
struggling the first few days.
Even a week or two of
vacation knocks me off my game.
See, exactly like an athlete.
If a basketball player stops
playing basketball for a month,
when he comes back,
he's not going to be on point.
Yep.
Right?
So we are kind of like athletes.
Oh, we absolutely are.
And in every sports,
you need to know the basics
down to a T. Nice.
Yeah, that's, I mean, that's just,
it is what it is.
You have to...
You have to have the fundamentals.
You have to have that foundation.
And that's what this beginner course is,
is the absolute beginning,
the absolute foundation for
where to start.
It's the shortest and the
cheapest course that it's
on the website because it's
a nice entry point.
And if you don't like it, you can...
not continue you know right
it's not like pay a lot for
everything and then you see
in the first few videos you
don't like the like you
said the way you don't
connect with me the way I
teach and stuff yeah
So that's why your investment is not huge.
That's why I divided it into
three different courses.
That's very good.
That's a full lesson for two
hundred bucks ish.
Yeah.
It's hard to hard to beat that.
And it's all courses are pay
once and have it forever.
So nice.
So lifetime access.
So if you make any updates.
Yep.
It's going to be in there.
They're going to get it.
So after you go through, learn,
I wouldn't say master,
but learn the fundamentals and beginner.
Yep.
Your next step up is intermediate.
Yep.
Right.
And in here,
What are we talking about here?
Yeah, we're talking about,
so you know how to fix a
small tiny dent after a
first beginner stage.
Now,
what I want to teach you in the
intermediate is what kind
of knockdowns we have,
what kind of pushing tips we have,
how to use them,
how to use each individually.
And then the next stage,
when you go to a big, bigger dent,
is cross-checking, right?
Right.
It's all videos go by the steps.
When you know how to cross-check,
then I want you to fix a
dent under a brace.
And then you can progress to
a middle-sized dent.
And the middle-sized dent
will easily get locked up.
Because the small, easy dent,
it's so hard to lock it up.
It is.
When a middle-sized dent gets locked up,
you get opening a dent up.
From that,
you go aluminum and also glue pulling.
nice so you're coming into
glue pulling earlier than a
lot of other things I've
seen yeah a lot of the a
lot of trainers I look kind
of like glue you know that
about me yep yep a lot of
trainers resist glue
because they feel like it's
a crutch and I would think
that you know ten years ago
fifteen years ago it
absolutely was a crutch oh
today is today sometimes
even better it's right
exactly yeah and I would argue
shameless plug yep our intro
to pdr through gpr starts
you with glue yes like
we're not even getting into
the hand eye coordination
of pushing right let's
teach you how to read a
light use a knockdown move
some metal first and that's
a great interesting theory
you have yes thank you yeah
thank you I think we have
videos about that I'm not
going to steal the show here
about that,
but I do like that really step
two or phase two of your
training already is
incorporating glute pull.
And you're right here
talking about the
difference between slide
hammer and mini lifter.
Pull paint or don't pull paint.
Be me or don't be me.
But it is something that a
lot of guys get stuck on,
or they don't know,
or they only use one and not the other.
And there's definitely a
time and place for each kind of tool.
That's really, really great.
And then from there,
we're going to move into
your third level advanced training.
And let's see what we're
talking about here.
So here we get to the bigger,
oversized dance.
And here videos get longer
and more detailed because
the knowledge is bigger.
Well, that makes sense.
I mean, you're building, you, your student,
you're building your knowledge.
You've got more and more
that you've learned.
It needs to be more complex.
And I really,
like when I talk about
somebody learning PDR, it is a,
it's not a ladder.
It's like a step of,
it's like a mountain range.
You've got ups and downs.
You're like, you don't know anything.
And then you can fix a little dent.
And then the dent gets a
little bit harder and you know nothing.
And then the dent gets a little,
you know what I mean?
And then you're like, oh, I can do this.
And then the dent gets a
little bigger and a little sharper.
And then you know nothing.
It's like a stock market.
It is.
And then you get to where,
like in the open with pushing,
you can push like a pretty decent dent.
When we're doing our glute pulling,
intro to PDR,
we can get you glute pulling
a pretty good dent.
when he,
then you start pushing under a brace.
Yes.
Little dent.
You're like, man,
I've never used a whale
tail and had to go with a
sharp tip before.
I've been able to cheat with
an R four and like fluff it up.
Yeah.
it gets more difficult.
It's just a series of up and downs.
It's like a,
I guess the curve would be like,
you're like this,
but you're constantly
getting better and going up
until you reach the top.
It's never, you're never at the top.
Well, it's always higher.
Well,
and then you can get stuck in the
plateau and then you need
to come see us at level up,
level up training to move up.
And then after that,
you're going to plateau again.
And then you got to go see
Bryce for crazy smash training.
Right.
That's just, that's your thing.
So in here,
You start off with, right,
obviously your introduction,
but oversized dance.
I would assume there,
given that we're talking
quote-unquote beginner
training oversized hail
damage exactly style
something like yes larger
doordings yeah bigger hail
dance things like that yeah
and you can see also the
the videos here are much
longer like oversized dent
I have to separate in three
parts yeah it looks like
it's before yeah that's
almost an hour of just
working on on oversized
dance yep and then
finishing the dent like that with
Smaller the dent,
the easier it is to do the
final finishing.
The bigger it is,
the more cross-checking you need to do,
the more cornrows can happen.
Really, the more complex the repair gets.
Exactly.
So it's finishing the dent,
also sanding and polishing.
Sometimes it's necessary.
It really is.
There are trainers out there that say,
you can't wet sand anything.
You can't do this.
I'm twenty three years in.
I like to think I'm a pretty good tech.
Yeah.
White sand almost every day.
Yeah.
Right.
Like it's just the reality of it.
It's not just do you want to do it or not?
It's also like, hey,
do you want to make more money?
Right.
Right.
It's so much faster.
Like, yeah,
you can get that bent to one
hundred percent by spending an hour more
Or at this point, or more, yeah.
Or at this point,
just sand and polish and it's done.
Five minutes.
Yep.
So I've been teaching with,
when I taught with Kiko,
like we were sanding from
like really small dent one.
I didn't even want to push
them to paintless.
I wanted to push them to
what I call a fillerless repair, which is,
you know, on a blend panel,
they're blocking it with.
Yep.
Six hundred to a thousand grit paper.
They're getting it kind of
close and they're going to
block it and then they need
clear coat to finish it.
So I'm glad that you're addressing that.
Yeah.
For sure.
Using heat.
Yeah.
When and where that's again.
These are good.
These are really good.
This is the first time I've
taken a dive all the way into the course.
And then we have work on body line dance,
crease dance, sharp dance, crowd.
I didn't even know you could
fix dance on body lines.
No, no.
But you can.
Well, it's magic.
You need to hide yourself so
nobody sees it.
Okay.
You actually can fix it.
Yeah.
It blows my mind that even today...
are technicians out there
that say that so you can't
fix something about that so
you are addressing this uh
you know from yeah from
training one um priest
dance sharp dance dealing
with crowns uh oh and then
advanced blue pooling so so
three parts so basically so
what are you talking about
with advanced glue pulling
I'm excited to hear this is um
big deep shot you would say
double oversized probably
on a rail okay yeah um and
just how to cross check how
to attack it how to look at
the dent stuff where you're
gonna have to pull and
knock the rim of the
volcano down open it up
stuff like that it's not
your basic glue pulling hey
this is how you glue pull
this is how you prep the
panel you write that here
you pull that's the basics
Yeah.
Then, well, something bigger, more complex,
just the one-tap pull,
it's not going to work.
You need to work it, open it up,
cross-check, and stuff like that.
And this is the advanced loop pulling.
Man, you got deep in this course, dude.
Yeah, I tried to.
No, I would say you are.
Absolutely.
uh and then of course we're
addressing blending which
is probably one of the most
misunderstood things yes in
pdr and a lot of it's funny
a lot of people about
blending think it's some
magic thing that somebody
shows you how to do it and
then you can do everything
with it I had a guy in the
beginner training um before
we did the level up this
year he did one week with me beginner and
Every day, he was just asking me, hey,
when will we learn blending?
When will we learn blending?
I'm like, in this week,
you're not ready for blending.
I can show you.
I can explain to you.
But you're not going to learn it now.
First of all, for blending,
your eyes need at least six months,
I would say, minimum, if you're good.
To really be dialed in on it.
Yes,
to actually read what is possible to
blend and see what the
blending hammer is doing.
If you're talking about true blending?
Yeah.
yes the subtleties you need
to see yeah and the
movements in the metal yeah
you better be yep and and
really damn dialed in and I
think six months is I said
too low number all right
well I I would say at a
minimum yeah six months six
months if you're going hard
yeah yeah I think someone's
like really good like a
natural talent yeah in six
months we'll be able to see
what you need to see and
actually do the blending
right there we go bring that back
Uh, I agree completely.
That's uh, man, I'm impressed.
That's you're going deep on the training.
That's that is a really complete, uh,
really complete course.
What would you say separate
other than your personal approach, right?
Like everybody has their own
personal approach.
What would you say separates
your online beginner PDR
training from the other
courses that are available?
Where do you think you shine?
What do you think your specialty is there?
Well,
I think my skills and how this course
is set up, it's step by step.
So you need to start with video one,
video two, video three,
and don't progress until
you know what's here.
And I often say in the course,
If you know this,
now is the time to go to the next stage.
It's not just random videos
that today you come online
and you're like, huh, oh,
I want to learn about Chris Dent.
Okay, Chris Dent.
Oh, I want to learn about blending.
No, go step by step.
It's basically a step by step program.
So this is not a catalog of...
training videos yes of
repairs where somebody
could come in like a like a
dent trainer yeah right
mike's got a huge catalog
over there of lord I don't
even know tons of good
knowledge great knowledge
yep tons of it and it's a
resource where you're like
how do I do this yeah that
is not this training yep
this is a beginner training
yep this is I like how
you're explaining it too
uh where it's like you need
to do this and we're
teaching you this skill to
build on to be able to take
you to the next step yep
which is exactly how I like
to teach yep right that's
that's it's structured but
for for a complete beginner
yes um now with that we
talked a little bit off
camera obviously uh it is
it is structured to take you from
you know nothing,
you've never touched a dent.
Two, it's some pretty advanced stuff.
I mean, I'm impressed.
If you're a beginner and
you've not had any experience,
your advice was go buy my
course and start a beginner.
Yep.
Just take the beginner one.
What if I've been like so
many techs or want to be tech?
You know what I mean?
Future techs.
Listen, I've gone to real world,
I've gone to AAI,
I've gone to Dent Trainer.
Should they come in and buy
your beginner course?
Or should they,
if they can see their tip
and they can do the basics,
should they do that?
Or can they jump ahead and
start at intermediate?
They can jump ahead.
They can start at intermediate.
But I had a guy who, but I never saw,
I never saw his work.
I don't know how he's
pushing his training.
He's still learning.
And he jumped right into intermediate.
He bought it intermediate, start learning.
And then he went back and
bought the beginner course and he said,
Ooh,
now I know what you're talking about
here in the intermediate.
Didn't know you don't,
sometimes you don't know
what you don't know.
Yep.
Yep.
So if you're like a hundred
percent confident that you
know how to find the tips
and everything and how to
position the light and how
to read the reflection.
then yes go with
intermediate yeah or maybe
even if you know the stuff
that's intermediate if
you're just trying to do
body line dance and stuff
like this you can go
directly to advanced right or just
take the whole package,
whole bundle of all three.
So I liked it,
how you have it broken down.
And you can't see the videos, right?
You have to pay to get in.
But you can see what is in each course.
Let's go back and talk about the bundles,
because we also talked
about this before we hopped on.
And I want to make sure that
you guys understand this.
And when I say guys, I mean guys and girls,
because there are more and more women
coming into this trade yep
which is pretty cool and
their attention to detail
uh is even a little higher
so there you can see
another small course of
just tool access just oh
yeah and I want to do when
I have time yeah like this
beginner stuff it took me
about two years from the idea
to being online, in between everything.
Set up how it's going to follow the videos,
to record them, edit them,
and everything.
It's about three years.
So I don't know where the
pro takes this one.
MARK MIRCHANDANI- See if we
could have gotten your visa
a little faster.
You could have come over.
We could have handled all that for you.
We could have done the production.
Bam, done.
But it didn't work out that way.
So you're here.
If you go to home.
MARK MIRCHANDANI- So you can
buy each course individually.
Yep.
If you go to home,
you can see the bundles.
MARK MIRCHANDANI- All right.
Let's go check out your bundles.
down under the courses bundles.
Bundles, there we go.
All right, so if you are all in,
you can jump in and buy the
all-inclusive LearnPDR course bundle.
So that's four courses?
Yeah,
so basically it's all the three beginner,
intermediate, advanced,
and it's the tool access.
The tool access, the extra,
was it the twenty bucks or something?
Yes, twenty bucks.
Um, so if you were all in, right,
that's the way to go.
And that's going to be your best value.
Yep.
Um,
if you are just getting started and you
want to take it a little bit further,
right.
You can do beginner and intermediate.
So first and the second for,
for five hundred bucks,
five hundred euros.
Uh, and then, uh,
if you've already got a start, right?
You've gone through a couple
other online trainings.
Maybe you've done an
in-person training and
you're looking to further
drive your skills.
You can do just the second half, right?
The intermediate and advanced bundle.
So I think that, you know,
that's a pretty cool way to do it.
I think what we discussed
was if you're trying to stop the share,
let's go back here.
I may have totally screwed that up.
They might not have even seen the website,
but I'm not sure how this
streaming art stuff works.
It's good.
But anyways, go to bestpdrtraining.com.
And check it out for yourself.
Yes.
So if they're not ready to buy the bundle,
but they like what they've
seen on your YouTube channel,
they like you,
they like the content that
you have out there,
you can buy just the beginner class.
If you're not going to do a bundle,
buy that.
If they like what you have to say...
They're following it.
They understand that they get it.
And they're sort of like
really connecting with you.
Yep.
Then the best way to
continue on is to buy that second.
Bundle.
Yeah.
Two part bundle of
intermediate and advanced together.
And they're still saving a
couple of bucks.
Yep.
Not quite as much as if they
would have done the whole
bundle from the beginning.
Yep.
But pretty.
Yeah.
Still, still, still a good deal.
Yep.
And like, John's a good friend of mine.
Great friend of mine.
Having shared the stage with
this guy multiple times,
having taught side-by-side with you for,
you know, really a couple of weeks now,
like collectively,
I can tell you for sure that you are, you,
he, whoever I'm talking to,
is a great trainer.
And you're able really,
and not everybody has it.
I feel like I have it.
you were able to break down
complex movements,
complex theories into simple,
easy to digest,
easy to understand things
that makes all the
difference in helping
somebody to learn and
understand a new skill, be it
beginner here, right.
Learning how to see your tip
or advanced at,
at level up and learning
how to fix like crazy deep,
sharp bordering on
stretched or even stretch stuff.
Yeah.
Like to,
to be able to explain what's going
on is a skill.
Uh, and, and like,
I wholeheartedly recommend
John as a trainer.
Thank you.
Uh, right.
So if you were thinking
about dipping your toes in,
or if you're trying to dip
your toes in and you're
working through it,
head on over to his website,
bestpdrtraining.com and sign up today.
And I would imagine as soon
as they sign up, the access is instant.
It's all, it's right there.
You pay and you have it.
Yes.
And he already said, you know,
lifetime access.
So as you grow your course catalog,
I'm sure you'll go back and
edit and add more stuff to
these over the years.
They will continue to get access to those.
Yes.
If you have somebody brand
new that's just diving in,
just getting started,
do you recommend tools?
What tools do you recommend?
What resources are there for
your potential students?
So like you get the course
and you're kind of ready to go.
What does that look like?
It looks like that in the
first beginner course,
there is my tool
recommendation and it's not a lot because
don't need a lot to start
learning agreed you do not
need to go spend ten
thousand dollars on tools
right out of the gate yeah
and I actually partnered up
with a one and they will be
coming out with a beginner
tool set that I recommend
it's gonna be like I think
I don't know definitely
under a thousand that I
would think so right
something like you just
need because a lot of
people invest a lot of money into tools
just to figure out two months later that,
oh, this is not for me.
Right.
You know?
Yes.
It's better to invest, let's say,
a thousand for tools and
let's say five hundred for
training online.
And then figure out if this
is for you or not,
then to go tens and
thousands in and then like, oh, yeah,
maybe I'm not cut out for this.
Right.
You know, it's not me.
It's not fun.
Yeah.
So.
I couldn't agree more yeah
right so for our advanced
uh or not in our advanced
so for our intro to pdr
through gpr uh we've sort
of partnered with anson yep
and there is the I can't
remember if it's the aai
kid or the gene fatty kid
or would like to go through
the catalog and there's a
couple different trainer
sets I think we're six
hundred and fifty bucks for
like a good blue gun that's
gonna last you for a long
time a good knockdown
Good hammer.
You got to have a light.
Yeah.
Right.
So for you, you need some push tools.
I would bet your thousand
dollar price point is
probably about spot on.
Yeah.
Right.
So that's like if we run
through that checklist real quick.
Light.
Good quality light.
Don't buy team garbage.
Yeah.
Right.
Buy a buy a real light
hammer and a knockdown.
Yeah.
Right.
Or paddle in a knockdown.
Yeah.
Does anybody make a good
paddle that you could, I'm just kidding.
Stinger.
Stinger paddle.
One, maybe.
And maybe something else
that's in the works.
Maybe.
So light, hammer, knockdown,
and then some tools to manipulate metal.
I would recommend a double
bend with an
interchangeable tip and then an S-hook.
Right, and an S-hook.
And then when you start
moving into glue pull,
like if you're going into
that thousand dollar range,
you're going to spend a thousand bucks.
Good mini lifter.
Yep.
Right.
Love the robot from Kiko.
Some finishing tabs.
Right.
Dead centers.
Some of the dead dent tool finishing tabs.
Yep.
Dent Reaper finishing tabs.
Right.
Not all of them.
Pick one and go.
A good plug in glue gun.
You don't need to invest in
cordless right away.
Yep.
Right.
Get a plug in glue gun
inexpensively and buy some good PDR glue.
Yeah.
Right.
Don't go to Walmart.
Don't go to Target.
Don't go to Michael's.
Get a PDR glue.
for it and for under a
thousand bucks in tools
plus your training, you were there.
A pink whale tail.
Yep.
And a left and right hand tool.
So you can do some under braces.
You can practice some under braces.
Right.
And that's it.
Do you get into under braces
in the first one?
No, it's in the second one.
Okay.
So if you're going just the first one,
you can skip the whale tail
and the brace tools.
Yep.
Because I'm trying... Price
point is what I'm thinking.
Yep.
We can get you...
They're like under a
thousand bucks plus your training.
Yep.
Right.
But how cool is it?
And I don't remember your story exactly,
but twenty three years ago,
I spent thousands of
dollars on training and on
tools and on travel to get
there and then practice and
still couldn't do anything.
And it was five days and then it was like.
Go away, boy.
Yeah,
you've got it figured out by now for
a fraction of that cost.
Yep.
For for a thousand bucks and tools.
And what's your your big combo?
Eight ninety nine.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So for me, the beginner, it's one hundred.
No, no, no.
The if we wanted to do the package.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Everything.
Yep.
So for under two grand round numbers.
Right.
Depends on currency conversion rates.
But for under two grand.
You have everything you need
to start your journey into PDR.
Man,
it like extrapolated out for inflation
and everything.
If I went back twenty three
years for what I spent and
travel and everything,
probably ten or twelve
grand to try it the other way one time.
Right.
For under two,
you've got lifetime access to the course.
You've got tools to get started with.
You go in and start, start,
start your journey.
Yeah.
So it's, it's pretty exciting,
pretty exciting stuff.
Yeah, I mean, we are here and you,
you and me, we're here to help people.
We're not here to take money from people.
Exactly.
If we don't want to take
thousands from you,
if then just to find out
that's not for you, you know?
Correct.
We're here to help and change lives,
at least how I see it.
This industry has changed my life.
I don't know where I would
be if it wouldn't be this industry.
and it's time to give back
yes this this industry has
been amazing to myself my
family to my employees to
my friends and colleagues
like yourself it's it truly
is something amazing to to
get into and to be part of
and the the the life that
it has afforded me and the
experience like
unbelievable unbelievable yeah for sure
any last uh advice anything
that we didn't cover about
the training that you'd
like to mention besides go
to bestpdrtraining.com and
sign up but I don't think
so I mean we covered pretty
intensely everything and
just want to say uh again
like you said before um
find someone that resonates
and connects with you.
Absolutely.
Maybe Jim Mitchell, maybe Mike, maybe me,
maybe Jim.
Right.
Find the,
find the trainer that connects with you.
Yep.
If they have more questions
or want to reach out to you
and talk to you, what's the best way for,
for the, you know,
Joe public to get ahold of you.
What's the easiest way?
Probably Facebook messenger messenger.
I would be the fastest way
that I would see it and respond.
Okay.
And if you don't have Facebook, Instagram,
Instagram.
Yep.
Okay.
What's your Instagram handle?
Zen.
The idea I see.
Okay.
And then of course you can
go comment on his YouTube videos, Rasm,
give him a hard time.
I'm just kidding.
I might retaliate for him on that.
Anyways, that is great stuff.
So, John,
thanks for taking some time to
talk about your training.
I'm excited for how well you do with it.
Yep.
Looking at the breakdown of the courses,
it's got to be spot on.
And having taught with you
and watched you teach,
I'm certain that there is
more value than you're asking for.
out of that pricing.
So go get that today.
Before we wrap up,
let's talk about some
events that are coming up real soon.
I'm gonna include you on the
ones that you're coming to.
And the ones that you're not coming to,
I'm gonna do without you.
So next up,
I believe on my docket is going
to be the Cam Auto Pro GPR
PDR trade show and
competition in Montreal at Cam Auto.
That is July eleventh,
twelfth and thirteenth.
I think on the last show,
I may have said just
eleventh and twelfth.
I went back and saw that I was wrong.
It is eleven, twelve and thirteen.
Trade show on the eleventh,
competition on twelve and thirteen,
and then the award ceremony, gala,
whatever they want to call
it on Sunday night.
So I need to change my
flight and change my hotel room.
to make sure I'm there and
move a training because I
had a training schedule for Monday.
Is that the one you asked me
not to go so you can win?
Well, yeah, that's okay.
Oh yeah.
But you're busy.
You're busy that weekend, right?
I got scared of Jean.
Yeah.
Uh, I'm just hoping to go and represent.
Well,
Yep.
You will.
I'm going to go give it all I got.
Man, the judges are pretty exciting.
So I saw they just added Don Cavanaugh.
Don is old school.
Been around forever.
Super guy.
Super technician.
Ken Clark.
Men of Steel.
Men of Steel.
I was hoping to see him in
the competition.
I was glad to see him not in
the competition.
And Guides from Brazil.
He's also a judge.
And that's a guy that Bryce
Kelly looks up to.
I'm still wondering if Bryce
is going to be in the competition.
I don't know.
I also hope that Bryce is
not in the competition.
So give a brother some room
to do something here.
Honestly, between, let's say, Ken, Bryce,
and Gides,
if you take those off the table,
it's anyone's game.
Really,
because those three guys are just
next level.
They're like you are.
in competition.
They're all the one percent.
You guys are all the one
percent of the one percent.
We are just in the different pads.
They're smashed big stuff.
And your technical difficult stuff.
And certainly taking zero away from them.
But if they show up,
You're just fighting for
second or third or all of them show up.
You're not even, you know what?
I'm not going to show up
because maybe that's why
they have them judged.
That could be, that could be.
But I also,
I'm curious about that event
because Charlie, Charles, Mr. Cam Otto,
he said, it's not all about PDR.
It's about making it flat.
So I'm thinking we may be
running into some paint
damage and some stretched metal.
which I'm more comfortable
with because I feel like a
lot of PDR techs have not
stepped out of the paintless space.
Yep.
Right.
And they're only working on those.
I think I have a different,
I know I at least have a
different view if not a
slightly different skill
set because I've done so
much work at body shops and
on actual collision repairs
and doing quote unquote
dumb shit that may give me
an edge in the competition.
But I need some clear rules.
I'm not really sure what I'm
up against but I am super excited.
This is going to be a really
excited competition.
I'm just honestly humbled to
share the stage with
you know martin's coming
over from the uk uh vlad
from where's lad from
vladimir he's czech
republic czech republic uh
pac from uh canada canada
yeah right like all super
solid stuff I mean there's
so many technicians we
don't even know when
they're doing some amazing
smash work like you go you
scroll on facebook or
somewhere and you see some
smash and you've never seen
this guy before right and
he's doing amazing work
well yeah yeah and you're like what
Yeah, it's come a long way.
Yes, it really has.
I'm really excited for the competition.
So go check that out.
Go to Cam Auto Pro on social.
And I think they've got the
link to fill out your form and sign up.
And it's going to be really,
I'm really excited to go do that.
And the only other time I've
competed was accidentally
at the dent trials.
Somebody didn't show and
Christina with Anson was like, you're in.
And I'm like,
I'm going to borrow Craig's
readers so I can see the dent.
It was ugly.
I think I borrowed some
tools off of Kevin Byrd.
It wasn't good.
That's why I'm a judge now.
So after the GPR PDR event
and the incredible thunder
out there might be hailing,
you may not go home next weekend.
We have coming up.
Honey, if I don't make it home,
Gene locked me here.
That's right.
We kept him.
Coming up.
July,
actually the evening of July
eighteenth and July nineteenth.
We have the Hale Expo coming up in St.
Louis,
Missouri at the Hollywood Casino and
Resort.
All that info is at HaleExpo.com.
The seats for in-person or
the tickets for in-person
are absolutely free,
but we are limited to three
hundred seats.
So go to HaleExpo.com,
sign up and claim your free pass.
We'll be having an episode
coming up here very soon.
uh with myself and Ryan and
Noah from denops uh talking
about the event probably
the next episode is really
what I should do because
we're running out of time
yeah for that six weeks
from now I saw Ryan yeah
yeah six weeks um so we got
some great speakers uh I
will be there talking uh
and obviously you like to
listen to me talk well
maybe not this episode they
might like listen to you talk
Nah, I think you're the driving force.
But if you're on the show,
I like to listen to me talk.
I'm going to be talking
about marketing hailstorms
and some different
approaches to take there.
We just spent a lot of time
on the Dent Nerds podcast
the other night.
So you can go check out some
more information there on that.
Noah is speaking.
Hale Trace will be there.
Air Pro Diagnostics.
We've got a financial wealth
management guy coming in to talk.
Mr. Matt Moore.
Like I'll fly out just to
listen to Matt talk.
And Paul Corden coming in.
And I think a couple more.
Both of them.
Both of them.
Wow.
It's going to be a. It's a lineup.
It's a free event.
Free lineup.
How can you not go?
Yep.
Yep.
We also, it's not free.
We will also be through AAI
live streaming the event.
So if you can't make it,
don't want to make it,
don't want to justify the travel.
I think for right at around
a hundred bucks,
you can get the live stream
and be there virtually
right here on camera.
uh coming up after that and
I hear about some tool
trucks oh yeah yeah yeah
absolutely so tool trucks
uh I know confirmed we have
anson and dent reaper
coming but of course
there's going to be other I
think we have room for four
or five tool trucks uh and
then maybe ten or twelve
tool companies in the
little rotunda yep so yes
lots of tool companies so
come listen to some
speakers network with other
techs and come put your
hands on and buy brand new tools
to go make more money with
if I can throw two cents in
if you're a hell chaser
with hail chasing tech just
to be put in a room for
free with three hundred or
two hundred and ninety nine
other health chasers help people
that's great value because
you can network there and
you can get work for
forever absolutely so so so
we've not had one we're not
we I say we now because me
and ryan and noah are
putting this together
previous to that it was
ryan's event ryan put these
on I was talking to a tech uh
Online in person.
I can't remember exactly
where I talked to them.
I talked to a lot of guys.
Yep.
But anyways,
he made connections at the
twenty nineteen Hale Expo.
So six years ago,
that was the last one still
working for the same Hale
crew that he got hooked up
with in in twenty nineteen at the Expo.
Yeah.
much money that's worth yeah
like yeah and it's for free
for free yeah just show up
and show up yeah yes and st
louis is a great central
location you can get there
from lots of the parts of
the country real easy yeah so
Coming up after that is the
PDR Expo in Las Vegas.
You're coming in for that.
Yes, I'm coming in for that.
Doing the dent trials.
September, nineteen and twenty.
Nineteen and twenty.
Yep.
At the Plaza again.
Yep.
That's a great, great expo.
Great, great show.
Great floor.
I love how small it is, too.
Small is a good thing.
Yep.
You get to spend time.
Intimate.
Maybe small is the wrong word.
It's an intimate show where
you get to spend time.
really network, get to talk to people.
And it doesn't have the same crazy chaos,
hustle and bustle of MTE.
Yeah.
It's slow and relaxed.
Yes.
It's a good time.
And everything is on the
reach of your hand.
Like you want to go in your room,
you want to come down,
it's three minutes and
you're in the expo.
Yes.
So.
And they are leaning heavy
into education this year.
I'm obviously a big
proponent of education.
I talked to Sheldon and they
are moving the education
off of the show floor into
rooms more like MTU.
I will be speaking on Friday
morning and Saturday morning.
So right dropping plenty of
knowledge there.
So Hale Expo tickets are on sale now.
The rooms are open now.
Go get it before it all runs out.
and there are two
competitions there yep I
was going to say the pdr
trials or a denture trials
and trials what you're
doing and then the beginner
competition that my son mac
is uh competing in and my
buddy dan his son chase and
his son-in-law stew yep are
all training are all
competing so these are all
brand new like everybody
there's going to be like a one-year tech
from them is going to be
just a little hair over a
year over a year yeah but
two years jason mac will be
under a year uh so we're
excited to see how all the
boys do yeah uh super
excited I will be coaching
mac hey it says no coaching
on the side no no no that's
in the rules coaching here
here yeah yeah no and I
will as a judge I will
abstain from the beginner
competition totally out there
And I'll just bust your stones.
But there is a rule in all
the competitions.
No coaching from the side.
Oh, right.
Yes.
Stay out of the mix.
I certainly I won't engage there,
but I will stay unplugged
from the beginner
competition just because
I'm so vested in it.
Yep.
But man, come on, Mac.
Let's get it.
And then after the expo
coming up from that,
I want to get my dates
right because I don't have
it wired into my head yet,
is the PDR College Advanced
Skills Seminar where we
will be handling the AV, the video,
the tech,
hopefully get the recording and
everything from that.
John is going to be teaching.
I'll be presenting there, yes.
That is at Anson in beautiful Burleson,
Texas on October eighth, ninth, tenth,
and eleventh.
And I think they're doing an open house.
And I was going to say,
I've heard tell that
there's an open house.

instructors yet to come.

a dance for kids here.
